Entrance fees (Per Person) for the key attractions in Kandy are as follows: 

SAARC nationals: 50% off the foreign national rate

  • Temple of the Tooth : Foreign nationals: LKR 2,000
  • Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya: Foreign nationals: LKR 1,500
  • Udawattekele Sanctuary: Foreign nationals: LKR 1,000

Children under 12 years enjoy a 50% discount on all entrance fees. SAARC nationals must present a valid passport to avail of the reduced rates.

Please note that these fees are subject to change, and it's advisable to carry sufficient cash in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) as credit or debit cards may not be accepted at all sites.

What should tourists wear when visiting Kandy?

When visiting Kandy, especially its religious sites like the Temple of the Tooth, it is important to dress modestly. Visitors should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. Sleeveless tops, shorts, and skirts are not recommended when entering temples or other sacred places. Light, breathable fabrics are ideal due to the tropical climate, and comfortable footwear is essential for walking around the city and its attractions.

When is the best time to visit Kandy?

The best time to visit Kandy is during the dry season, from December to April. The city experiences a tropical climate, with rainfall being common in the monsoon months of May to September. The Esala Perahera, a grand cultural and religious festival, takes place in August and is a highlight for many visitors.
